This 55,000 square-foot building is occupied by Alabama State University’s Department of Criminal Justice and by the State of Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. ASU’s Department of Criminal Justice uses its space for classrooms, teaching laboratories, and staff offices. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences uses its space for laboratories, evidence processing, evidence storage, offices, and an indoor firing range.
Access to secure parking and to Forensic Sciences spaces is controlled by electronic locks with proximity card readers. Forensic Laboratories and Evidence Processing spaces were designed for DNA, toxins, chemistry, biology, and firearms analysis. A 100-kilowatt, natural-gas-powered emergency generator helps ensure that critical spaces have conditioned air and emergency power available 24/7.
